March 2009

It was a beautiful day, one that was just made for working-42F that overcast gray where there isn’t reallly any texture in the sky, no hope of anything remotely interesting to even visualize and of course raining, the cold pelting rain that just makes yhou miserable. Yes indeed a great day to work. It was a long day also, about 11 hours worth of fixing teeth and one of those days where many of the patients just didn’t remember how to smile or say hello, good bye, forget about thank you. But as I walked outside I could see the sky was begining to clear and as I drove home the wind begain wipping the clouds away. So I drove faster because I could see the sun was begining to shine through as it was begining to set, the trees were lit golden at the tops and the sky was begining to glow. As I drove up the street the sky was brilliant with oranges, reds, yellows and blues but the sun was almost down. No time to rush in to get my 5DMII I pulled the little Elph out of my bag and started shooting. Not the best of images but chances are I won’t see skies like this again for a while.

And no, that is not my house

All images finished in lightroom, with Viveza plugin and uploaded with lr2/blog plugin by Jeff Friedl using lr2/Mogrify for the watermark and border (which you can’t see!)

I know the brush at the corners is a bit distracting but this was a first try at HDR with some new techniques I’ve learned and it is one of my favorite places. There were exposures were -1.3, 0, +1.3 and the development was done in Photomatix and then transported back into Photoshop CS4 where the ghosting of the swans was removed with masking. The colors were adjusted with Viveza and noise reduction with Noise Ninja. Thanks To Trey Radcliff for his excellent HDR tutorial And a big thanks to the fact that spring is slowly coming our way!
